La Traviata is perhaps the most popular of all operas, with its tragic love story set to glorious music. It is a story that everyone knows – Violetta, the famous courtesan, forced to give up the love of her life, only to die in poverty, young and heartbroken.
Opera UK’s new production will add a twist to all this. The opera will be set in Hitler’s Germany and at the start we see that Violetta is the kept mistress of a Nazi officer, before she makes her tragic bid for freedom. Following the great success of previous Opera UK productions, La Traviata will have the same house style – the music beautifully played by a chamber ensemble, stylish designs for the costumes and settings; and outstanding performances by the talented cast!
